A house in a greenhouse
Marie Granmar and Charles Sacilotto refurbished a house… constructing a greenhouse around! They took the roof away, and transformed it into a very enjoyable terrace. This unusual configuration was thought to fight the tough Stockholm winter, and was inspired by the architect Bengt Warne who began designing the first Naturhus (Nature House) in 1974.
The temperature is of course very dependent from the sun exposure, and there is still a heating in the house, as well as proper insolation. But the family claims to save three months a year of heating thanks to their greenhouse, on top of the gain by using less heating during hard winter.
Pay attention to the sewage system, nicely described in the video. The filtration and separation of solid and liquid waste is of particular interest!
