Olá, my name is Aline and I was born in Germany. I’d been living, studying, and working in Berlin for ten years before coming to beautiful Porto. I studied Urban and Regional Planning at the Technical University Berlin (with an Erasmus semester at the Faculdade de Arquitetura da Universidade de Lisboa). My interest and focus shifted quite rapidly to the sociological dimension of space. After I graduated in 2020, I worked for an urban design firm that specialized in citizen participation processes of urban development. During my 2.5 years there, I became aware of the various potentials but also the limits of engaging citizens in planning.

At Critical Concrete, I am hoping to expand my knowledge in the field of sustainable regeneration of urban spaces and climate adaptation measures, and herein learn very practical construction skills. Since the construction sector is responsible for about 40% of the CO2 emissions in Europe, more sustainable building techniques need to be explored. I want to contribute to the steps of that transformation by researching, testing, building – and transferring that knowledge.
